Who Knew?

I alternate from favorite show to favorite show. When Deadliest Catch is "in season" (that was a fabulous pun, I must say), it's all I want to watch. Then came True Blood, Whale Wars, and so on. Right now a current obsession is Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations on the Travel Channel. I really, REALLY, like this guy. He seems like someone I would love to just hang out with. I love to travel with every fiber of my being and I love good food. What is there not to like about this guy? I stumbled across his blog on the Travel Channel website the other day after watching a great episode where he visited, along with his wife and 2 year old daughter, his wife's home country of Sardinia. The country was so beautiful and the food all looked SO GOOD. But the thing that amazed me the most? Wife AND kid?? I never pictured Anthony to be a husband, much less a Dad, and it just made me like him all the more. So I did a little investigating online because I was bored, and came across the blog where he recently blogged about Noggin and Nick Jr. television shows. Being the mom of a former two year old and a current two year old, I've watched, and still watch, many Noggin and Nick Jr. shows. The blog made me laugh out loud, shake my head 'yes', roll my eyes in agreement, and smile. I forwarded the blog to Scott so that he could read it, as I knew he would share Anthony's view. I just discovered that he commented on Anthony's blog. Yes, Scott commented on a blog. And I was stunned. Shocked. Stupified. Scott needs to start a blog. Seriously.

Here is the link to Anthony's FOR PARENTS ONLY titled blog, and below is Scott's comment. I must say, who knew? I'm sure he won't, but I would so read Scott's blog if he ever started one. For those of you who haven't watched the shows he's talking about, you may not get his comments - but I think you'll get his message.

Anthony, while I pretty much agree with everything you've said, I find it disheartening that you have failed to mention a single word about the disturbing acts of the Wiggles; where grown men... check that... middle-aged men pretend to behave as 6 year old kids would, singing and dancing in such a painfully joyous manner that it makes my ears bleed and my frustration with the world come out in one fell swoop.

Something else I would have like to hear your comments on is the Teletubbies. Why must they continue to infect us with their subliminal dark messages that I fail to understand. They do not seem to be from this Earth, talking in a language only young children seem to understand and I'm afraid that one day the message will be complete and our children will, in a Teletubbie-induced trance, rise up and take over the world, bringing Po and Dipsy into power and we will all bow our heads twice a day to a baby-faced God which we currently know as the sun.

What happened to the simple humor of a cute cuddly mouse nearly snipping off the head of a big bully cat while "Mammy" chases after the mouse with a broom, or the adventures of a clumsy hunter tracking "wabbits" with a double-barrel shotgun, regularly inflicting more pain on himself than the rabbit. There's something to be said about simplicity in kids programming. It used to be easy and humorous, without point but in today's world, we have to constantly shove education at our kids to try and get the one leg up on everyone else. Maybe, one day, we can look back and laugh at how hard we tried.

I've never seen his show! If the guy inspires you two that much, though, I guess I should check it out, huh?

I like him too. In fact he was in Mexico City visiting a friend's family. They went to some dumpy looking building and found some of the most yummy looking food I have ever seen. In fact I kept trying to memorize the look of the street and the building so that I could fly to MC and get some of the lady's yummy food.

Leigh - We loves Anthony Bourdaine. He actually knows what he's talking about, he isn't just a face with a camera following him around. He visits the most incredible places and samples the real food, the real cultures, the real people. It's sooo interesting. And he's funny, sarcastic, hates all things commercial. He's a real writer (crime drama) and a chef in a famous NYC restaurant. Can you tell I'm a little obsessed with Tony?? That I want to be him, but in female form?
