Last night Scott and I went out with friends and our favorite babysitter, Ashley, came to stay with the kids. Because it was still light out when she got here, the kids begged her to take them to the park - and of course, she happily obliged. So, Scott and I finished getting ready in peace and headed out for our night out. After we returned home later, Ashley had a funny story to tell us:
After she took the kids to the park, Abbey wanted to slide down her favorite slide. However, she wasn't able to! Three boys a little bit older than Cole had taken posession of the slide and decided that it was "theirs". Abbey climbed the steps to the slide only to be told that "no girls were allowed". Of course, this upset our little princess - as patience isn't exactly her strong suit, and she slowly climbed down the stairs and promptly began howling at the top of her lungs that the mean boys weren't letting her slide down "her" slide. Ashley started walking over to the boys to ask them to please share, but Cole stopped her by saying in his best twelve year old voice, "I'll take care of this." Cole marched over to the slide, climbed the stairs, scowled and said, "My sister wants to slide. You better let her." Even though the boys were older than Cole, they were a bit smaller...and they promtly got out of the way to allow Abbey to slide down "her" slide.
I am so proud of Cole for this! He may be seven, but he knows right from wrong...and he sure is protective of his little sister.
On a side note: Election Day was yesterday. Guess who didn't get on the school board? Me. But that's OK! Six of us were running for two open seats, so it wasn't a guarantee by any means. The one thing that makes me sad is that out of our entire school district, only 300+ bothered to vote. 300!! Out of probably 5000 registered voters in our district. So sad. Please, you have been given the right and the liberty to vote...do so! Make your voice heard, or you have zero right to argue or disagree. Zero.
Just sayin'.....
