Cole had a big event this weekend. On Saturday he was invited to spend the night with his future wife, Hattie. For those of you not in the know, Hattie is my friend Holli's daughter, and she's a total DOLL. Her and Cole pretty much worship each other and are seriously just like peas and carrots. Cole is six to Hattie's five, but they get along so great. When I was dropping him off, I made certain he was listening to me and I gave him a few reminders...."Make sure you say please and thank you. And remember that you're a little bigger than Hattie is, be careful with her (she's really just a little bitty thing). And remember to listen to Holli and James if they tell you guys to calm down if you're being a little too wild. And remember to pick up after yourself. And remember to put on your PJ's before bed, you can't just sleep in your underpants with Hattie." As I kissed him goodbye, I was suddenly reminded of my own mom giving me a similar lecture while she was driving me over to a friends house for a birthday party. I was probably around 7 or 8. "Now listen to me, remember to call Dr. So and So 'doctor', not 'mister'. He worked very hard for that title in school, okay? Remember to call him Dr. So and So." To this day I don't remember my friends name, or her last name, but I remember my mom telling me how to correctly address a doctor. I also clearly remember saying, "Thank you Dr. So and So!," at the end of the party. I remembered! Surely Cole would remember my little Ms. Manners pep talk, right? Right???
Well, yes and no.
When Cole was returned home the next afternoon, I listened with a big surge of pride as Holli went on and on about how good Cole was, how much fun the kids had, how well he listens, how polite he was. And then Hattie went running past us, hollering back at Cole, "Ew! You FARTED!" Holli rolled her eyes to me and said, "Ugh! That's her new favorite word. I don't know why she says it all the time!" I suddenly had something very interesting to look at on the wall just above Holli's head. Nope. I have NO IDEA where Hattie picked up that little phrase. Nope. No idea....

ha, that's hilarious! well at least cole was good up until he farted!
Fart is not a bad word. I'm just saying. It could've been much worse!
Glad those two lovebirds had such a fun time together!
I think remembering to never sleep in just his underpants will serve him well the rest of his life. Some day his wife will question this strange practice, but who cares what she thinks.
