More rain moved in overnight and a nice little storm kept Scott and I up for three hours in the middle of the night. Got to love being sleep deprived going on a road trip. And of course our route followed the storm ALL THE WAY. It finally stopped about thirty minutes outside of Baton Rouge. Ugh. I drove the whole way, by choice, and my eyes are killing me from squinting in the rain. Laurie calls me absolutely livid about two hours before we got to the hotel. Evidently the real estate agent that rented us the beach house sent Laurie an e-mail letting her know that the oven in the house is broken and the part is not expected in until after we leave. Sorry if this causes any inconveniences. Mom already purchased a week worth of groceries over the internet and they're being delivered tomorrow. How in the world are we going to cook for fifteen thousand people with no oven?? Yes, this causes an inconvenience. Laurie called little Miss Charlotte and gave her what for and demanded that we either get a new house or a major credit off our rent to compensate for meals out. Suddenly they think they can get the oven fixed in time and they delivered a new gas grill. Idiots. So we get to the hotel, and the nice two bedroom suite that I booked us for only $125 (!!!) isn't available because of all of the ridiculous rain they got. Bad leak right over one of the beds. Now we're in a new room - still very big - but the kids will have to sleep on a pull out couch together. I have no idea how this will work, but I'm sure it'll be fine.
On the flip side, I'm going to brag about my kids for a bit. Scott and I have the two most perfect children on the face of this planet. We were in the car for eight and a half hours, and there wasn't a single fight, cry, scream, complaint, spill. We only had to stop three times, once for lunch and the other two times to pee. No complaints getting back into the car and only three "are we there yets" the entire trip. When Abbey was tired, she slept. When Cole was tired, he rested. When they were awake they looked at the scenery, they chatted with each other, they watched movies. Abbey laughed hysterically at the opening scene of Ice Age where that little squirrel thing is trying to get his acorn. I asked Scott if the screen was a little dim and Cole butted in and asked what dim meant. I said that it means not bright. And Cole answers, "I feel a little dim." Me too, kid. Me too.

OMG I am so jealous. I want to come spend a week with your family! Your mom always said I was like a daughter to her. And your dad loooovvvvesss me. And I cook. So you guys are totally missing out by not having me there. Whatever.
aww man, i hope the other room works out for you. sorry about the rain. i too like to take over at the wheel. hope you guys got a good nights sleep.
Maybe the rainbow was to keep that storm from hitting Florida, not for an easy commute. I said a prayer for you all last night after seeing the forecast.
Good for Laurie calling up the landlord! I laughed out loud picturing her with her hands on her hips, shouting into the phone! Looks like it did some good!
Have a safe trip today! Tell everyone I said hi! Maybe you could, each and every day, spread a towel on the sand and pretend I'm there. Anytime someone tries to lay on it, holler, "That's Leigh's towel! Don't sit on her!!"
